Red and green was the color of her dress
Manipulation
Pale blue was the color of her eyes
Manipulation

Yellow yellow, was her hair
Orange sunburst, red-hot glare
Manipulation
Manipulation

And you can feel her madness
She will call you out
Watch out for her dark side
And you'll soon figure out
She'll straighten you
And she's got you, got you

Red and green was the color of the ground
Manipulation
Pale blue was the color of the steel
Manipulation

Yellow yellow was her hair
Icy grey, was her glare
Manipulation
Manipulation

And you can feel her madness
See right through her smile
Don't you turn your back and
You'll soon figure out, so run on
She'll straighten you
And she's got you, got you

Red and green was the color of the money in her hand
Pale blue were the color of the flowers on his casket

Yellow yellow was her hair
Icy grey was her glare
Manipulation
Manipulation

And you see her sadness
She will call you out
Watch out for her dark side
And you'll soon figure out, so run on
She'll straighten you
And she's got you, got you

The sky is blue and you are too
I feel like running
Your eyes are red and mine are too
I feel like laughing
The wind said nothing, nothing at all
It all meant someone was gonna fall

In the middle of summer
No one haunts me like you do

Mom and Dad look old again
Where am I heading?
My two sisters miss me yes,
Without me knowing
It all meant something,
Something to us all
The wind said nothing,
Nothing at all

In the middle of winter
No one haunts me like you do
In the middle of winter
No one haunts me like you

Our president then was dead to us
Hallelujah!
He takes his pills so he can kill
Praise the Bible

I need no pills to kill
Hallelujah!
I need no pills to kill
Raise the rifle

Oh, the Phosphene Dream,
The Phosphene Dream
Oh, the phosphene,
The Phosphene Dream
Oh, the Phosphene Dream,
The Phosphene Dream
Oh, the Phosphene Dream,
The phosphene

Non-rising body from the grave showing new reality
What I am, what I want, I'm only after death

As far as counterculture guiding principles go, the line "We encourage you to rethink your preconceived notions, question authority, and create other methods of survival" in the liner notes of The Black Angels third album Phosphene Dream certainly ranks as a lot darker than "tune in, turn on, drop out." And that's exactly what you get from an album that's far more sympathy for the devil than incense and peppermint.

As amazing as The Black Angels were on previous albums Passover and Directions To See A Ghost, up until now their stomping retro trance rock was strictly the domain of psych burnouts, people with Colonel Kurtz avatars and film students who use their songs to soundtrack tribute videos to No Country For Old Men.

But that's all changed with Phosphene Dream. By pumping Alex Maas' vocals up 10 per cent and consciously avoiding the lengthy tribal jams of their past records they've created something far, far more wicked.

Right from the lament against the woman who's "eating hearts again" on inverse Beach Boys kick-off track "Bad Vibrations," it's very clear this will not be an album about meeting up at the love-in. "Yellow Elevator #2" could be about alien abductions. "River Of Blood," with its talk of super killing rings and absolutely vicious blasts of feedback, continues the dark vibe before The Angels throw down what may be the best driving song since "Radar Love" in the form of the pulsing "Entrance Song."

While that first half may set the table, the back side of the album truly melts minds. The title track dials things in to focus on familiar Angels tropes — war (probably Vietnam), lysergic visions, toxic gases — which then segues into the sprawling condemnation of religion in "True Believers."

Perhaps most telling about where the band stand is that the only "single" on the record, the organ-led super-shimmy Nuggets-approved groover "Telephone" is buried deep, the second to last track. It's a bit of retro pop that seems effortlessly executed. But sure enough, it's immediately stuffed by album closer "The Sniper" and its rich breakdown.

Put all together The Black Angels have accomplished an incredibly rare feat — they've made an album that's dangerous both for the ears and the mind. This is what music of the rebellion should sound like.

Synes begge to er j****g fete.

Believe me, if I started murdering people… there'd be none of you left!

Liker denne beskrivelsen:

The classic sounds of '70s hard rock and heavy metal have never gone out of style (that's why they've earned the tag of "classic"), but although each subsequent generation has offered up bands eager to tap in, recycle, and reinterpret these timeless teachings, this enduring "retro" tradition has gained an especially large and dedicated legion of believers in the 2000s. So much so that for every band looking to the predictable Sabbath/Zeppelin/Aerosmith axis for inspiration (see Wolfmother, Witchcraft, The Sword, etc., etc.), there are others digging through forgotten crates to find other, significantly less obvious, root sources like, for example, the psychedelic acid trips of Iron Butterfly, the outer space adventures of Hawkwind, the epic synthesizer-laden prog metal of Rush, and yes, even a little Black Sabbath, but of the often dismissed, late-'70s period of the Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die! albums. These very influences apply to Portland, OR's Danava (pronounced do-nuh-vuh), which was formed in 2003 by Illinois transplants Dusty Sparkles (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), Buck Rothy (drums), and Dell Blackwell (bass), with additional synth player Rockwell joining in time for the group's 2006 debut through Kemado Records. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi

Apropos The Entrance Band:

Noen som har sett DVDen som fulgte med Dead Meadow - Three Kings? Ligger noen klipp på Youtube som virker lovende.
